You Just Won’t Let it Heal

We can probably all relate to having an annoying cut or scrape. It’s sore, it hurts and we’re too often reminded it’s there. Even something as small as a paper cut can make us miserable. We baby it, nurse it, apply healing ointment, and hope it heals fast.

The healing process brings a whole new level of misery. ITCHING! You can tell when the healing has started because it starts to itch. Just what we wanted. Healing.

This happened to me recently.

As my wound (that was very painful) began to heal, I began to scratch and you guessed it: it’s sore and hurting again because I just couldn’t let it heal!

Being quite annoyed with myself, I actually spoke out loud to myself, “You just won’t let it heal, will you Karen?”

So it is with emotional wounds. It hurts. I want to heal but when the process of healing begins, it’s uncomfortable. I scratch (talk about, dwell on, vent) until it’s sore again. So, I’m back at square one with a wound that’s sore and I’m ever aware it’s there again.

I’m learning to allow God to heal my wounds with His healing balm as only He can. It’s a process and it’s uncomfortable sometimes. But, soon, all that will be left is the scar. Evidence the wound used to be there but it doesn’t hurt anymore.

At the Foot of the Cross

We’ve probably all joked at one time or another about “so and so” living at the foot of the cross. Recently, I noticed Isaiah the Prophet really did experience what it was like at the foot of the cross some 700 years before it happened!  “Behold my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted…

July 4, 1776. A brave step of faith in a surprising journey that stunned the world. Representatives from the thirteen colonies signed their names to a document declaring their national independence from Great Britain. The colonists had only a small trained army and a meager navy, yet by signing their names they essentially declared war…
